General information

Nature gives us everything we need! Today, many pharmaceutical and cosmetic compaines add unnecessary things to their products. Water, alcohol and other additives and preservatives are added. Sometimes to cut costs, (and make zillions of dollars - at YOUR cost!) and other times, these ingredients extend the shelf-life of a product. In our opinion, these are simply unnessary.

All of our products are island made on Put-in-Bay, Ohio and in Lahaina, (Maui) Hawaii. They are made mainly with organic ingredients grown locally and are meant to aid in healing as well as bring you joy when you use them. Your skin absorbs everything you put on it, so what do YOU want to put in your body?

How does lavender sound? LAVENDER is amazing, of course! Roses? Coffee? Or, how about coconut? The oil from one of these fuzzy things is REALLY amazing and healing. They grow on really pretty palm trees in sunny, warm places such as Hawaii. We like that.

The owner and creator Christine (Christie) Ontko began her creations after finally getting the "secret" family recipe for Gramma's Salve. For three years she had to beg her mom and aunt for it! Finally, Aunt Jeanette gave her an index card one day after a family get-together. It held the list of ingredients as well as how to make the famous salve that was first made by Christie's Great Grandma, Christina. It was simply called "Gramma's Salve." (Yes, our modern-day island medicine woman is named after the creator of the salve! Cool - huh?)

This salve was always in the island medicine cabinet of the Parkers of Put-in-Bay. Used for cuts, bruises, and nearly everything else, this has a distinct medicinal smell and unlike anything Christie has ever used in her search for organic living.

Many of our products contain lavender, organically grown in the gardens at Freshwater Retreat and Maui, Hawaii. Rose petals grown on Put-in-Bay are also used inside our Rose Daydream. Other ingredients come from England, France, Madagascar (Really!) and Egypt . (The internet is truly a good friend to have when living on two islands.) Our products are currently being sold on the island at a shoppe called Freshwater Remedies, next door to Freshwater Retreat, or right here on our website. (We love to ship our stuff to you!)
