Hayton Farms Berries Company Information
General information
Our family farm was established in 1876, on Fir Island, in the Skagit Valley. Many different crops have been grown here over the years. My great great grandpa, Thomas, grew hay and grain for work horses. In 1900 my great grandpa turned the farm into a dairy. During my grandpa Leroy's life he turned it into a crop farm. We currently grow potatoes, cauliflower, cucumbers, wheat, and berries. My dad has been growing berries since the '70's, and I started selling berries at the end of our driveway when I was in the third grade. In 2001, my two sisters and I began selling our berries at the Pike Place Market. After that, we started selling at a couple more farmers markets every year. We now sell our berries at over 50 farmers markets in the greater Seattle area. Our summer varieties of raspberries and blackberries, all of our blueberries, and most of our strawberries are Certified Organic by the WSDA. Some of our strawberries are Certified Transitional by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. Our fall varieties of raspberries and blackberries are grown conventionally.
