STS Trailer & Truck Equipment - Albany

General information

Syracuse Trailer Sales, Service, Leasing Inc., the parent company of STS Trailer & Truck Equipment was started in 1949 in Syracuse, New York as primarily a service provider and truck body distributor with a single location in Syracuse, New York.

George and Barbara Jacobs purchased the company in 1976 and it has been in the Jacobs family ever since. With George’s vast work experience in the tractor trailer industry the company expanded into tractor trailer sales shortly after being purchased by the Jacobs. From that point the company had expanded the trailer lines to include all types of trailers from dry and refrigerated trailers to dump and flatbed as well as specialty trailers used in construction and garbage hauling.

As the business continued to grow and expand the members of the Jacobs family that worked at STS did as well. Following in their parents’ footsteps, Barbara Mudge, Mike Jacobs as well as twins Shawn and Steve joined the company in the early 80’s.

In addition to the expanding trailer sales aspect of the organization, STS also seized the opportunity for continued growth in the heavy duty parts and the truck equipment up-fitting sectors. With the expansion into these areas it became apparent that the “Syracuse Trailer” name was not only too limiting geographically, but also in identifying exactly what products and services the firm offered. Therefore, in 1988, a DBA, STS Trailer & Truck Equipment was formed.

Throughout the 1990’s as well into the early 2000’s additional STS locations were opened. They were as follows:

1997- STS location in Buffalo was opened. It initially opened in Kenmore area of Buffalo before finally settling at its current location of exit 49 of the NYS Thruway in Depew.

2003- STS location in Albany was opened through the acquisition of White Bear Equipment and is currently on Central Ave in Colony, 4 miles from Downtown Albany.

2004- STS acquired TW Truck Equippers which ultimately led to our 4th location in Rochester. Currently on Transport Drive in Rochester.

Currently with 4 company owned stores in the Upstate New York area in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany, STS is the largest truck equipment and trailer distributor in New York. All STS locations have full parts, service and sales departments. Some of the larger trailer Manufacturers represented include: Landoll, MAC, Utility and XL Specialized. A few of the products carried for the truck equipment market includes: Morgan, Boss, Meyer, Fisher, Smith, Reading, Waltco, Econo Line contractor trailers and many more. STS is constantly adding new areas of service for their customers and this is evident in the newly added Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE) sales department, featuring OPE service as well, which includes brands such as Scag Power Equipment, Echo, Little Wonder, and Ryan Turf Equipment. The most recently added product line is Palfinger which STS sells and services.
