General information
The South Carolina State Board of Registration for Geologists hosted the first meeting of Geology Boards of southeastern states in 1988. This initial meeting included representatives from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Between 1988 and 1990 several meetings where held, and the individual boards recognized there were common interests relating to reciprocity, examinations, policies, and procedures. The initial four states, combined with Arkansas, Virginia, and Tennessee, initiated the development of draft rules, bylaws, code of ethics, and a proposal on reciprocity for an association of state geology boards. In November of 1990, the National Association of State Boards of Geology held its first official annual meeting.
