Née en 1957 à Lanester en Bretagne, une soif de voyage mène Chantal Royant à Berkeley, en Californie, à la fin des années 70. Il y règne une agitation intellectuelle et artistique d’avant-garde. Influencée par le “Studio Glass movement” américain, elle y développe une démarche expérimentale de transformation du verre en fusion.

De retour en France en 1989, elle installe son atelier en Bretagne et continue à nourrir son inspiration par de nombreux voyages.Dinard, comme la pâte de verre, lui offre une immersion dans la lumière, la transparence, la couleur, le mouvement. Le paysage évolue en permanence et ces forces vivantes l’inspirent inlassablement. Chantal Royant vit la création comme une aventure et aime que sa liberté se manifeste en mouvement.

ARTIST BACKGROUND

Chantal Royant was born in 1957 in Brittany, France. As young as eighteen, she began a world tour that started her initiation. Her journey led her to Berkeley, California, nerve center of the counter-culture. There, from 1978 to 1989, she studied contemporary glass and was part of the experimental movement: Studio Glass. In 1989 she returned to Brittany to open her own studio.

She now shares her time between Brittany and California.

She sculpts glass and creates ‘installations.’ She exhibits her work around the world in galleries, museums and centers of contemporary art.
