Adagiata lungo le rive del fiume Liri, all’ingresso della Valle di Roveto, nel corso dei millenni Sora fu un importante crocevia per gli scambi commerciali che si svolgevano tra le limitrofe comunità. La parte più antica, abitata dai Volsci, doveva trovarsi sulle alture di Monte San Casto dove oggi si erge lo medievale Rocca Sorella.
