Since the collapse of Britain’s cup recycling scheme, the 2.5 billion-plus paper cups used in the UK each year have been sent to general waste where they are either landfilled or incinerated. Recycling plants rejected the cups as they found the separation of the polyethylene film from the paper problematic.

The good news is that paper cup recycling has now become possible in the UK due to new facilities and The Simply Cups Scheme has been launched as a result. Simply Cups is a partnership between Closed Loop Environmental Solutions and Simply Waste Solutions and provides the UK’s ONLY paper cup collection and recycling service. Members of the Simply Cups Scheme including paper cup manufacturers, organisations operating in the supply chain as well as beverage and hospitality outlets have reduced their operating costs, increased the transparency of their audit trails and dramatically improved their environmental credentials.
