Nicht wenige Kinder – wie auch Valentina Peter aus Wangen im Allgäu – werden von einem schweren Krebsleiden heimgesucht. Dabei spielen Alter, Geschlecht, Herkunft etc. keine Rolle. Die notwendige Therapie bedeutet meist einen sehr langen Leidensweg für die Kinder (und die ganze Familie), ohne dass ein Überlebenserfolg garantiert werden kann. Oft ist es wünschenswert, diese Kinder – vor allem auch in ihrer letzten Lebensphase – intensiv-palliativmedizinisch zu Hause zu betreuen.

Die Universitätsklinik Ulm, Abteilung Kinderonkologie, hat unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Daniel Steinbach ein Projekt initiiert (PalliKJUR), das zusammen mit lokalen Klinikpartnern eine palliative und zugleich intensiv-medizinische Begleitung für schwer kranke Kinder im ländlichen Raum ermöglicht. Partner im Landkreis Ravensburg ist die Oberschwabenklinik (OSK).

Ein Begünstigter der Stiftung Valentina ist daher die Initiative PalliKJUR der Universitätsklinik Ulm.

Stiftung Valentina is a foundation to sponsor intensive medical home care and attendance for seriously ill children, especially for children who are terminally ill with cancer, and for their families.

Quite a lot of children – just like Valentina Peter from Wangen – are afflicted by a severe cancer. Age, sex, parentage etc. do not play a role. The required treatment often goes hand in hand with a long time of suffering for the children (and their families), without a guarantee of survival. Often it is desirable to provide these children with intensive palliative care at home, especially during their last phase of life.

The department of paediatric oncology of the university hospital Ulm has initiated, under the direction of Prof Dr Daniel Steinbach, a project called PalliKJUR, which makes palliative and intensive medical treatment for seriously ill children in rural areas possible:

The team works together with partners in local hospitals. In the district of Ravensburg in the south of Germany this would be the Oberschwabenklinik (OSK, hospital of Upper Swabia).

One beneficiary of Stiftung Valentina is therefore the Initiative PalliKJUR of the university hospital Ulm.
