ラコステは、創造性に富んだテニスチャンピオンであり、ポロシャツの生みの親であるルネ ラコステによって創設されたライフスタイルブランドです。ポロシャツは、彼の友人や彼自身がテニスコートでもオフの時間でもリラックスでき、かつエレガントでいられるために生み出されました。
クロコダイルの愛称は、かの有名なポロシャツのロゴを作り上げる以前の1920年代後半、ラコステが多数のグランドスラムチャンピオンのタイトルを獲得した際に、ワニの刺繍の入ったブレザーをコート上で着用していた報道に起因します。
