鎌倉の西方極楽浄土と謳われ、1年を通じ「花の寺」として親しまれる長谷寺。本尊の十一面観音菩薩は、高さ9.18ｍを誇る日本最大級の木彫仏。また、坂東観音霊場の第四番札所として、往古より衆生の崇敬を集める古刹でもある。
