General information

Ambrish Damani is a label in itself hailing from Kolkata in the fashion industry. Since 1999,

the designer has developed a unique style of its own, majorly reflecting the ancient

traditions of Bengali Heritage. The kind of understanding Ambrish contains about the

ancient designs and traditional crafts is unmatched this has given him an extra edge as a

designer 'From the East'. Ambrish has a very rich lineage of entrepreneurs in the corporate

world and through his hard work and label he is not only pushing the boundaries but also

expressing his passion for design and creativity.

His designs are not only very wearable & comfortable but also offer a genre/range for every

occasion. He creates simple designs to suit all women in different age groups and also

makes them look elegant and stylish without pinching pockets. His creations have a certain

panache, modernity and convenience which makes the clothes very easy to drape and later

maintain especially by the working women.

His design philosophy is very spontaneous and simple. Fabrics, weaves and ethnic prints

inspire him to create appealing designs for the Indian women with a contemporary lifestyle.

His body of work utilizes a broad spectrum of fabrics, primarily natural. His creation invokes

images of ancient and medieval ages. His artistry is best reflected through his favourites

including Cotton, Linen, Silk and Georgette. Moreover, he usually goes for simple cuts which

would go with any age group, shape or size adding to a huge sense of comfort for anybody.

Additionally, he prefers a good blend of hand and machine embroidery to make the outfits

cost effective.

Being a creative person, Ambrish was very influenced by ‘Bengal’ – its rich heritage,

repository of culture & traditions which continues to translate into his designs and

collection. Furthermore, his collection reflects a whiff of fresh air and his effervescent

personality. He mostly specializes in Indian wear for women that comprise of beautiful

Anarkalis, Pre-pleated Kurtas, Elegant Lehengas and Petite Saris along with matching

accessories.

As a graduate from NIFT & London College of Fashion, Ambrish firmly believes that fashion

is all about comfort and designs are actually not the creators of fashion but only accentuates

the person’s looks both externally & internally.

Going forward, Ambrish plans to make his label very accessible by targeting additional cities

where designer labels are not yet readily available.

Presently, Ambrish Damani Couture retails from their workshop in New Alipore, Kolkata and

is soon planning to launch his own exclusive store by this yearend 2016. His creativity goes
